The awnings (1) is connected to the grid (5) through an inverter (3) which injects energy directly into the grid without the use of storage batteries. To maximize energy production and extend the life of cells, a motor (2) controlled by a central meteo weather (4) drives the awning during cloudy and during episodes of wind.

Building Integrated Photovoltaics (BIPV) is the integration of PV material within the building skin (roofs and facades) to create a unique product - a building component with PV functionality. The true integration is realised when the building component and the PV element cannot be dissociated anymore. The BIPV market segment is potentially the greatest opportunity for the PV sector, due to the huge potential in terms of suitable rooftops and facades to integrate PV.

Industrial, commercial and residential roofing provide a large surface area for the application of PV systems. However, there are very few building integrated photovoltaic (“BIPV”) products available on the market, due to the fact that more than 95% of today’s PV systems are made of glass-based modules, which as a result of its inherent structural rigidity and weight cannot be integrated onto most industrial building components. Glassbased modules therefore require a substructure and involve installation cost to be fixed onto the roofing.
